| The Department of History currently offers the MA and PhD degree in the following fields: Canadian History, with particular emphasis on regional history and the history of Atlantic Canada; International and Military History, emphasizing the history of war and diplomacy in the twentieth century; Women's & Gender History, focusing on theoretical and historical perspectives which can be combined with existing graduate fields or stand alone; The History of Colonial North America, including the American Revolution, the Loyalist migrations to Canada and elsewhere, and Native-European encounter (due to recent retirements, we are not currently able to offer PhDs in this field). |

The Department regards PhD applicants as applying not only to work in the Department, but also to work with a particular member of the Department. Therefore, before an application to the PhD program will be seriously considered, a member of the Department must have agreed to act as Supervisor. Students should get in touch with an appropriate member of the Department before applying formally for admission. As well, applicants should submit a copy of their completed MA thesis, or, if it is still in preparation at the time of application, copies of any completed chapters. |
