Description:

Through a curriculum of knowledge, adaptive physical techniques and field practicum experiences, the training caregivers are taken on a journey of professional learning. This includes the hands-on, demanding physical techniques of intimate personal care to help clients, as well as the understanding and empathy for the client's individual personal situations and resulting behaviors that accom¬pany the personal changes in their client's independence. This is a physically demanding profession, which also requires students and graduates to lift and transfer their clients.

This program prepares graduates to give to their clients empathetic, confidential, holistic care, promoting independence, mobility, personal appearance, comfort and safety, in a growing variety of environments. The curriculum emphasizes communication, observation and reporting skills to ensure Sheridan graduates demonstrate professional, caring and ethical behavior in order that they become exemplary members of a health care team.
