Description:The goal of this program is to teach a range of skills that will nurture the ability of committed individuals to express themselves effectively through music composition. Aside from studying with some of Canada’s best composers, individuals take upper-level theory classes in analysis, counterpoint, orchestration, electroacoustic music, computer applications, and conducting. Admission into the program is based on demonstrated achievement in composition and is highly competitive because enrolment is limited.

Admission Requirements

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.

  •  Grade12 English 

Present six appropriate Grade 12 U or M courses, including English ENG4U or Anglais EAE4U. A maximum of 2 music courses may be counted toward the 6 Grade 12 U or M course requirement. Applicants who present appropriate combinations of Grade 12 U/M and OAC courses will also be considered. The "out of school" component of Grade 12 U/M co-op courses will not be accepted for admission purposes. Applicants must submit a supplementary Faculty of Music Questionnaire by February 15 in order to have an audition time assigned to them.
