|Description:||Sudbury is at the heart of one of the world’s most important mining areas. Mining engineers receive a broadly based education that suits them to work in today’s complex, high technology world of mining. Their work involves the design, development, operation, and management of mines and their associated activities for the safe, economical, and environmentally sound extraction of minerals from ore bodies.
At Laurentian, emphasis is placed on underground, hard rock, and metalliferous mining. Several major mining-related research centres are located on the Laurentian campus, focussing on issues such as rock mechanics, robotics and automation in mining, innovative mining techniques, deep mining productivity enhancement, and sustainability in mining. The Co-op program is completed over five years.
