Description:

Biology at Western offers research-intensive, thesis-based graduate training at the Masters' and Doctoral levels. We study life from a variety of perspectives including ecology and evolution, molecular and cellular biology, and physiology and biochemistry. We offer a stimulating and collegial training environment, world class facilities, guaranteed funding to students in good academic standing throughout their normal program duration, and high-profile research opportunities overseen by internationally-recognized faculty.

The Biology graduate program is the largest and one of the most dynamic in the faculty. About 50 core and adjunct professors supervise thesis-based Masters and Doctoral student projects.

Prerequisites:

Application Notes : For admission to the Doctoral program, applicants must have, or expect to receive, a thesis-based Master’s degree from an accredited university, and provide evidence of promise of aptitude and success in research. The program requires at least a 78% average in the Master’s degree. In some cases, a student’s advisory committee may recommend a transfer from the Master’s to the Doctoral program on the basis of the student’s scholarly achievements and research progress.
