Description:As of September 2015, the Bachelor of Education (BEd) program will be a two-year full-time professional program that meets the requirements of the Ontario College of Teachers for teacher certification (Certificate of Qualification). It is open to applicants presenting proof of graduation with an approved undergraduate degree from an accredited university. The program provided by the Schulich School of Education is rigorous and demands a high degree of commitment. To be successful, a student must display a sensitivity to pupils, a sense of responsibility to the teaching profession, and a respect for knowledge.

Admission Requirements

Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 600] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 100] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 7] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 90]

Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to submit the results from either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) including the Test of Written English (TWE) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS): (a) TOEFL score: 600 on the paper-based test or 100 on iBT with a minimum score of 27 on writing and 27 on speaking; (b) IELTS score: Overall score of 7 with scores of at least 6.5 in reading and listening, and scores of at least 7 in writing and speaking; (c) The requirement for MELAB is a minimum score of 90, with at least 4 on the Oral Interview Component; (d) PEARSON score: overall score of 67 with scores of at least 60 in reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Additional Admission Requirements:
    Applicants to the Bachelor of Education program (Consecutive) must hold a recognized undergraduate degree, all required teachable subject courses, and be able to provide a transcript indicating that the degree has been conferred by June 2017 to be considered. Please note that applicants must have a minimum of ten full courses (20 semester courses) to their undergraduate degree, not including advanced standing credit, to be eligible for consideration.
