|Description:||Art Therapy utilizes the healing and self-reflective aspects of the creative process to address issues across the whole spectrum of human conditions. Art Therapy program teaches students to use therapeutic treatment through art to prevention and rehabilitate children, adolescents and adults. The college believes that visual and plastic arts have the advantage that they by-pass the often highly defended secondary process of language and permit direct expression of dreams, fantasies, fears and other inner experiences.
The Institute uses a residential model of periodic intensive experiential coursework throughout the year, combined with online theoretical courses and practicum placements in the student’s home community. Supervision is offered to distance students in a number of formats: with local registered art therapists for face-to-face individual supervision, email and phone supervision, and group supervision during the residencies. Students may arrange practical in his or her place of work if approved by the Institute. The Distance structure is designed to be able to meet individual needs within the requirements of the art therapy training program. If you have any questions about your situation, please feel free to contact the Institute.
