Description:This two-year diploma program prepares you to work with people who are experiencing distressing events in their lives, both from an individual perspective, and in a way that examines how society can contribute to challenges and crises in people's lives. You will learn how to help people to promote their rights and meet their responsibilities in ways that empower them. There is a focus upon promoting equality to address disadvantages that people face on the basis of race, disability, gender, and sexual orientation. Excellent field placement experiences give you the opportunity to participate in at least two human services agencies where you will have direct contact with clients under direct supervision of professional staff.

Minimum of 40 hours of secondary school co-op, volunteer or paid work experience completed in a social services agency Submission of one reference completed by a person who supervised your co-op, volunteer or paid work experience. A reference form will be provided to you. Note: A police record check will be requested during your program of study. In respect of the 90-day limit on validity of record checks and the types of checks required by the various agencies, please do not attain a police record check prior to being accepted to the program. Faculty will support students upon arrival to the program to ensure they apply for the correct type of police documentation at the appropriate time.
