Description:This two-year diploma program provides skills and knowledge in all aspects of prehospital medical care. Classroom components provide a theoretical basis for the skills required to deal with medical and traumatic emergencies and emphasizes the ability to communicate effectively with patients and work in a health care team environment. Clinical placements include rotations through both chronic and acute care hospital settings while field placement in ambulance services provides opportunities to assess and treat patients in the actual work environment at a primary level of care. Physical and emotional conditioning is emphasized to apply skills under the most demanding situations likely to be encountered in the prehospital environment.

If English is not your first language, refer to the English Language Proficiency Policy in this publication • Grade 11 or Grade 12 Biology (SBI3C, SBI3U or SBI4U), or equivalent • Grade 11 or Grade 12 Chemistry (SCH3U, SCH4C or SCH4U) or equivalent • Grade 12 Mathematics (MAP4C, MCT4C, MDM4U, MCB4U, MGA4U, MCV4U or MHF4U) • Completion of admission testing for senior-level biology, chemistry, writing skills, and arithmetic (fee $35)

Test Scores:
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) [min. 550] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Computer Based) [min. 213] or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based) [min. 80] or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) [min. 6] or Michigan English Language Assessment Battery [min. 76]
Additional Admission Requirements:
    • Submission of documented proof of current CPR-C for HCP and Standard First Aid certifications • Submission of documented proof of completion of current full Class G or G2 driver’s licence Upon their acceptance into and prior to beginning the program, students must provide proof of immunization against Hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, tetanus, diphtheria, influenza, a negative result on the Two-Step Tuberculin Skin Test; and valid CPR-C for HCP and Standard First Aid certificates.
