Description:

The Dental Specialty Assessment and Training Program (DSATP) is open to applicants non-accredited dental programs and want to practice in Canada. The DSATP, commonly known as GAP training, assesses candidates’ didactic and clinical knowledge, skill and judgement in their specialty area and identifies area(s) that require additional training. For a prospective applicant to be admitted to the DSATP the required training to address knowledge and/or skill deficiencies must be completed in less than 12 months. Upon successful completion of the DSATP, the Faculty of Dentistry will provide a certificate of completion to the student. Upon request the Faculty of Dentistry will provide a letter to the Royal College of Dentists of Canada confirming the student’s eligibility to write the National Dental Specialty Examination (NDSE) administered by the National Dental Examining Board of Canada.

Prerequisites:

These courses are intended as guidelines. Speak to your guidance counsellor to see what courses are offered at your school.
    Applicants to a Dental Specialty Assessment and Training Program (DSATP) in the Faculty of Dentistry must have completed a minimum 2 year recognized specialty training program and hold a DMD or its equivalent from a recognized university. Applicants must have completed a training program in the specialty program she/he is applying to. For example, an applicant who wishes to apply to the DSATP for Orthodontics must have previously completed a minimum 2 year recognized specialty training program in Orthodontics in order to be eligible for admission to the Orthodontics DSATP.
    Test Scores:
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (Paper Based) or International English Language Testing System (academic or immigration) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet Based)
    Application Notes : Applicants who received their qualifying degree from a country in which English is not the primary language must present evidence of proficiency in English.
