Description:

This two-year diploma program is designed to help prepare graduates to give qualified professional care to individuals and families in a variety of settings. Graduates are eligible to apply to write CPNRE exams for licensure as Practical Nurses. In order to meet requirements for clinical practica, students may have to travel to regional areas in the East Kootenay.

With this curriculum, caring is viewed as a core concept. Practical Nurses foster client empowerment in care planning and decision making, and are cognizant of their unique biological, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural and environmental complexity. Practical Nurses care for clients across the lifespan, providing safe, knowledgeable and integrated care through critical thinking and clinical judgment.

Prerequisites:

  •  Grade11 Foundations for College Mathematics (MAP4C) 
  •  Grade12 Biology 
Applicants are required to have: Grade 12 or equivalent, and a minimum of 65% in English 12 or ENGL 090 or English First Peoples 12; Math 11 Foundations with a grade of 60% or equivalent; and Anatomy and Physiology 12, or Biology 12 (Human Biology) or BIOL 090, with a minimum grade of 60% or equivalent.
