Now What? Things To Consider After Your Don't Get In

Make sense of alternate offers, mark upgrades and why a "no" doesn't mean the end of the road.

Sometimes things just don’t work out how you planned, and that’s ok. Stephen Spielberg was rejected 3 times by USC’s film school. Tina Fey, Tom Hanks and even Barack Obama were all part of the “We regret to inform you club” before finding their way to success. As disappointing as it may be, here are a few things to consider while you’re working on your plan B.

Explore other program options
If you didn’t meet all of the requirements for your first choice program you might have received an alternate offer for a program you do meet the requirements for. Although not your first choice, it might be a good option because you can switch majors in your upper years and lots of programs take similar classes in 1st and 2nd year, giving you the foundation (and prerequisites) you’ll need to make the switch later.

Consider a reduced course load
Along the same lines as alternate offers, Nipissing also offers admission on a reduced course load if you have the prerequisite high school classes, but your average just isn’t quite high enough. This is another great option, where you would be taking 4 classes a semester instead of 5, giving you extra time to focus on your studies.

However…
If you have your heart set on that first choice you might want to consider taking online, night or summer classes to upgrade your marks or get any prerequisites you might be missing.
