The largest shift in this year’s rankings sees Trent University and Mount Allison University flip-flopping positions – this year Mount Allison finds itself near the top at number two, and Trent drops to number four. The University of British Columbia continues its reign at the top, and Acadia University manages to nab the fifth position.

  1. 1. University of Northern British Columbia
Sharing the top spot for student awards, with more than three awards given per every thousand students, and coming third for total research dollars, this B.C. school retains its top rank in the standings.
  2. 2. Mount Allison University
Rising from fourth to second place this year (after ranking first in the 2015 edition), this Maritimes institution receives the most medical/science grants in the category and spends 6% of its operating budget on library services, ranking it first.
  3. 3. University of Lethbridge
Lethbridge shares top honours in the student services category alongside St. Thomas. More than 8% of its total operating budget goes towards student services. Its dedication to its students allows the Albertan school to remain in third place this year.
  4. 4. Trent University
Trent’s student body believes it to be the best school in the country for scholarships and bursaries (ranking first). The Peterborough, ON school also had an impressive show for faculty awards (ranking third) and social sciences and humanities grants (second place).
  5. 5. Acadia University
A strong sense of community exists at this Wolfville, N.S., institution, with students ranking it third overall in student satisfaction. It was voted top three in student life staff, and administrative and academic advising staff. It also hands out a lot of student awards: just over three for every thousand students, placing it in a tie in for first place with the University of Northern British Columbia.

Lower down in the rankings, Bishop’s University moves up from last year’s 12th position to assume this year’s 9th, with the majority of other schools staying put, or nudging one spot up or down on the list.
