Making the most out of university consists not only of being engaged in the classroom but also getting involved outside the classroom. Whether a student is volunteering, playing sports, traveling or starting their career early through student employment, they are discovering themselves and becoming well rounded citizens who have the skills to thrive before and after university.

13,170 students are currently discovering themselves on the largest Thompson Rivers University (TRU) campus in beautiful Kamloops, British Columbia. TRU students get involved and stay involved as early as their first week at university.

To kick off the school year the TRU Student’s Union puts on the Back-to-School BBQ where students explore and get involved with over 90 TRUSU Clubs. Students can choose between diverse clubs like the Ski and Snowboarding club, Debate club, Guitar club as well as academic clubs in Social Work, Business, Nursing, Chemistry and Law.

Other students find their niche in athletics and play on one of TRU’s seven Varsity Teams including men’s and women’s volleyball, basketball, soccer and badminton. In addition, TRU has six Athletic Clubs including baseball, cross country running, curling, swimming and cheerleading. And if you’re looking to play for fun, there are Intermural Teams for Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball and Hockey. Go Wolfpack!

After their first year at TRU students have even more options to make the most out of university experience. TRU students can start working alongside their professor as Research Assistants and even apply for Research Grants and be paid to conduct their own research!

Other students enroll in the Study Abroad program and spend a semester or two at another university in one of forty countries or travel with their class to places like Germany, Belize or Prague for a Field School.

Wanting to get a jump on your career? TRU students can explore career options through a variety of programs including Career Mentorship, Co-op and Internships.

Once students become a pro at university they have the opportunity to gain leadership skills as an Engagement Ambassador and can even graduate with a Co-curricular Record providing them with a record of student engagement while at TRU.
