Who says you have to choose between travelling or going to university? At the University of Waterloo, you’ll have many opportunities to go abroad and apply what you’ve learned from the classroom to the real world, continue your studies, or work!

With over 140 exchanges, you can take courses and earn credits from our partner institutions in more than 35 countries. You’ll be able to explore, experience new cultures, and broaden your knowledge – all while continuing to work towards your degree!

Programs such as Recreation and Leisure Studies, Biology, and International Development directly incorporate international opportunities into their curriculum in ways that you wouldn’t normally expect.

Depending on your program, you might have the chance to step foot into Walt Disney World Resort for a 6-month exchange, visit rainforests and reefs in Costa Rica for one of your field courses, or tackle problems hands-on during an 8-month overseas placement.

You can even set yourself apart and make your international experience a formal part of your education by adding the Global Experience Certificate to your degree, showing that you’re truly a globally engaged learner.

Aside from studying, take advantage of our worldwide network of employers and complete a work term in another country if you’re in co-op. In the last year alone, there were more than 2,300 work terms spread out in over 60 countries like Germany, China, and Japan!

With international work experience, you’ll become a more marketable candidate in multicultural job markets.

The opportunities are here – it’s up to you to decide where you want to go.
