University Is Affordable (It’s All About The Scholarships)!

It’s not a secret that post-secondary education isn’t cheap, but there are many opportunities available to help take some of the edge off.

Awards, scholarships, and bursaries.

At the University of Northern BC, the Awards & Financial Aid department (housed in the Office of the Registrar) is motivated to help you discover awards, apply for scholarships, and organize the information necessary for financial aid (where applicable), please contact them anytime at awards@unbc.ca.

Our first awards deadline for the academic year is December 15th, for Early Entrance Awards. Our second (and last) deadline is March 1st, for Entrance, General and In-Course Awards. Please take a look at our Scholarship, Bursary and Award Guide for a comprehensive list of general, entrance, program, in-course, university scholar, and athletic awards. Each award listing has a wealth of information attached to it and provides information about application requirements and award criteria.

Keep in mind that post-secondary institution awards are not the end of the road. There are many (many) awards you are eligible for, such as community awards (participation in a local bowling league, for instance). Your counselors and community leaders are great references for these and always know of scholarships and awards up for grabs! Another great resource to keep in mind is ScholarshipsCanada, a database of scholarships throughout Canada that allows to you create a profile to better match you with awards you may be eligible for.

A final word of unsolicited advice: apply for as many awards as possible. It costs you nothing (other than a little bit of time) to apply and the payout could be monumental.
