An excellent opportunity to get organized for your next educational steps!

The beginning of a new year offers a new semester, possibly the end of your high school career, and an excellent opportunity to get organized for your next educational steps. These next steps may be:

  • Applying for post-secondary institutions. If you haven’t applied for admission to your preferred school(s) yet, we suggest you do so as soon as possible. (Apply for studies at UNBC here: http://www.unbc.ca/apply/undergraduate) Once you have that offer of admission, you will be able to…
  • Apply for on-campus residence, or find off-campus housing. Once you know where your educational path will lead you, it’s time to find somewhere to live! (You can apply for UNBC on-campus housing here: http://www.unbc.ca/housing/unbc-housing-residence-life)
  • Apply for scholarships, awards and bursaries. There is a lot of money available in awards (that you don’t have to pay back). As soon as you have an admission offer to your post-secondary institution of choice, start applying for awards (general and program specific)! (Find UNBC’s Awards and Financial Aid department here: http://www.unbc.ca/financial-aid)
  • Talk to an academic advisor. Whether you know in exactly what direction you want your life to go or not, your academic advisor should be on your to-visit list when you arrive at university/college. They can help you plot your course to the end of your undergraduate degree, the beginning of your professional program or Graduate degree, or a change in majors.

In the meantime, enjoy! Make the most of these final months of high school by using your last classes as stepping stones to your first post-secondary classes, get organized for your university/college life, and (if you can) schedule a trip to visit your institution of choice before you make the big move – there’s nothing like visiting the campus that will be your home for the next few years to get the lay of the land!
