Whether you’ve already been offered admission to the school of your dreams, or you’re still waiting to hear back, you’re going to want to go out on a high note academically, since any offer will be conditional on your success in the last half of grade 12.

Concordia University recruiter Ayanna Ryan recommends staying focused by creating an at-a-glance look at what’s ahead. Write down the due dates of major assignments and exams and post it somewhere highly visible. That way, you’ll have a big-picture view, and a constant reminder, of what you need to accomplish before the end of June.

If you really want to get ahead of the game, consider ramping up your study habits so you’ll be ready to hit the ground running once you start university. The single most effective thing you can do to help yourself excel, says Ryan, is to review the material ahead of time. “It’s amazing how ideas are clarified when you go into class having already read the subject matter the professor’s discussing.”

Part of the enjoyment of being in the home stretch of high school is anticipating what’s next. The new year is a good time to start planning a visit to your new school. Concordia is throwing open its doors to new students as part of Admissions Information Day on February 13. The Welcome Centre offers campus tours year-round.

Joining your school’s Facebook group is another excellent way to get a window into what’s ahead for you as you make the transition from high school to university student.
