For Humber College student Anthony Nguyen, his community development trip to Guatemala was a life-changing experience.

“(This trip) was the ideal way to earn field placement hours,” says the Bachelor of Child and Youth Care student. “The days are jam packed and I was able to work in local communities and at a school. I made many connections with local students and I learned so much.”

This wasn’t Nguyen’s first experience abroad. He also studied at JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Finland and Robert Gordon University in Scotland, UK.

“On the weekends I did not have school and was able to travel around Europe,” he says. “I met so many people from around the world and now I have many global friends.

Going abroad has definitely changed me as a person.”

Each year, more than 400 Humber students go abroad for work and study and in the past several years have traveled to more than 35 countries and every continent, with the exception of Antarctica (at least, not yet!).

The college recently received Colleges and Institutes Canada gold award for Internationalization for the enriching experiences provided to students.
