Students think global when envisioning their future. Share how your school provides international opportunities - whether it is an exchange program, internships, or even full degrees abroad.

As an international business major, Hannah Kellett knew that a term abroad would be an ideal addition to her studies at the John Molson School of Business (JMSB). It’s one of the main reasons she chose Concordia University.

Kellett spent the first half of 2013 in South Africa at the University of Pretoria. The experience was all she hoped it would be: a chance to challenge herself and question what she knows. She describes her courses as “really enlightening and really exciting.” A class on managing public relations crises, for example, was closely tied to current affairs, which give her a window into both business strategy and South African society. She decided to sign up for another term abroad, this time in Chennai, India.

Concordia International and JMSB helped her organize the exchange. “I’ve found Concordia to be so flexible,” says Kellett. “There’s not a lot of red tape in your way. If you’re excited about something, they’ll be excited with you — and help you make it happen.”

Kellett went on to do a paid internship through the Co-op program in Washington, DC with a global trade management software company. She credits her international experience with helping her land the job. “It shows you’re adventurous, adaptable and curious. You’re not all talk.”

At Concordia, students are passionate about being part of positive social justice around the world, and the University makes it easy to play an important role. Spending Reading Week in February learning about yourself and the larger community in New Orleans, with the Alternative Spring Break program, is one example. Many Concordians travel to Gulu, Uganda, and spend a term working in community development through microfinance, sport, art and health care with the Concordia Volunteer Abroad program.
