Balancing classes, projects, and studying with a social life and (possibly) work is never an easy task. At UNBC we recognize that different students need different services, so we’ve made them readily available to you!

  • Academic Success Centre (ASC): The ASC offers a variety of one-to-one and drop-in tutoring services, online support, writing support, specialized study skills tutoring and support, and a fantastic library of pick-up-and-go handouts. They also provide specialized services for students who are learning English, and peer-led learning programs such as Supplemental Instruction (which supports high-risk courses, rather than targeting students). To ensure quality service in all learning environments all of our tutors and peer leaders receive on-going certified training. ASC services are absolutely FREE to UNBC students!
  • Mathematical Academic Centre for Excellence (MACE): MACE is a student-centred space dedicated to students taking math-based courses. It is a space for working on problems along or in groups, or for getting help from tutors, teaching assistants, and faculty who are on site at scheduled times (and always identifiable by their green ties embroidered with the MACE tree frog).
  • Access Resource Centre (ARC): The ARC is committed to creating and maintaining physical, intellectual and social access to UNBC for students with disabilities. It is ARC’s mandate to assist in reducing the physical, attitudinal and systemic barriers faced by students with disabilities.

The Academic Success Centre at UNBC has also put together an invaluable run-down of a student’s first six weeks at school (http://www.unbc.ca/academic-success-centre/your-first-six-weeks). It is all about time management, commitment, balance, and finding a way to make all of the aspects of your life fit together in the best way possible. If you need help, you have many avenues available to you – please do not hesitate to ask!
