For many graduate students there’s there is a lapse between completing an undergraduate degree and enrolling in a Master’s program, so here is a primer designed to ease the transition to full-time student, and ensure you get the most out of your Thompson Rivers University graduate school experience.

Graduate Student Commons
Redesigned less than a year ago, the Graduate Student Commons is a collaborative student engagement space. Filled with natural light, the space adjacent to the Main Library is open 24/7 via secure access. The Commons is designed to allow quiet study space as well as act as an informal gathering place, complete with kitchen area and complimentary coffee and tea. Long tables and nearby whiteboards are ideal for small groups, and a meeting room holds up to eight students. The grad Commons is equipped with audio-visual equipment ideal for presentations.

Graduate student workshops
Whether you’re looking for information about applying for awards, writing grants or thesis defense, there are a number workshops organized by the Office of Research and Graduate Studies each year. Is there a topic that you’d like to have featured as a workshop? Just let us know!

Three-Minute Thesis (3MT)
Held at Thompson Rivers University each spring, the 3MT is an international competition that allows each graduate student three minutes to explain his or her body of work before a live audience. Graduate Student Research Symposium
In March, graduate students are encouraged to attend the symposium, organized by graduate students with the goal of encouraging research, building a graduate student culture and creating opportunities for networking and socializing.

Awards & Funding Opportunities
There are a variety of funding opportunities available to both domestic and international graduate students across all faculties. New this year is the Ken Lepin Graduate Student Award.
