De-Stressing is a Strategy

Let’s face it, college can be stressful. Between being away from your known social networks, home comforts, and having to write assignments and exams, and maybe even doing teamwork with people you wouldn’t befriend on a good day, it can be tough.

Busting stress requires a strategy, and there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.

Canadore College’s Student Success Services Department takes this to heart. They have designed student-centred services that can be uniquely tailored to each student’s needs. From study workshops and tutoring, to assistive devices and career preparation, there are resources available for issues big and small.

The College is committed to supporting each student’s overall well-being and success. Students have access to a comprehensive mental health framework that allows learners to connect with supports with a just-in-time appointment model, putting them in touch with local medical, educational and mental health professionals around the clock, at the very moment it is needed.

Students can also have fun with Niiji, Canadore’s mental health and wellness dog. Niijii, meaning ‘friend’ in Ojibway, is an integral part of the College and its student success strategy. The three-year-old German Shepherd helps to create a comfortable atmosphere by assisting students in expressing their emotions, de-escalating high intensity situations and reducing day-to-day stress and anxiety.

There is also a family doctor and nursing staff on-campus at Canadore’s Health Centre. New this year, students can get a massage, see an aesthetician or consult with naturopathic and homeopathic doctors at the health.life.balance wellness centre located on site.

Make de-stressing a part of your student success plan today. Like the old adage says, an ounce of prevention is a worth a pound of cure.
