This time of year can be particularly stressful for university students. The exam season is in full swing and students are waiting to hear if their applications have been accepted. Stress, although a normal response, can be detrimental to one’s health. Luckily, the University of Northern British Columbia has many services available to its students to help combat the stress felt around this time of year!

Having a good support system can help combat stress. The Peer Counsellors at the Peer Support Network can also provide this. What do the Peer Counsellors of the do? They listen. The Peer Counsellors are caring student volunteers dedicated to helping you find solutions to your problems and helping you connect to other support people if you need.

Does studying for exams have you stressed? The Academic Success Centre can help. The ASC offers both one-on-one and drop-in tutoring services. They can also help students understand and improve their learning and studying strategies to become more successful students. What’s the great thing about the ASC? All the services they offer are free to students!

Stress can take a toll on both your mental and physical health. The Wellness Centre at UNBC offers on-campus counselling and health services. Students are able to access individual or group counselling services, consultations with counsellors, and workshops. The Wellness Centre also offers health services to help students manage illness and other health concerns with physician, nurse practitioner, and nurse clinics offered year-round.

Although stress may have you feeling overwhelmed, remember, UNBC is here to help you succeed in all areas of your life. For more information, visit our website at www.unbc.ca or contact us directly at unbc4u@unbc.ca – we’d be happy to assist you!
