Taking Your Studies on The Road

Travelling abroad can be a very enriching experience. The opportunity to spend an extended period of time abroad studying, doing a work placement or volunteering can make the experience that much more memorable.

It is a way to experience new environments, immerse yourself in fascinating cultures, find inspiration, and make new life-long friends. As a current Seneca student, it’s possible to do all of this, and get credit recognition or financial support. In general, students interested in studying or working abroad must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Be currently enrolled in third semester or higher of a full-time program at Seneca College
• Have a cumulative GPA of 2.7 or higher at the time of application (letter of recommendation may apply)
• Be at least 19 years old or older at the time of application

There are study abroad opportunities built into several of Seneca’s programs. For example, students in the Business Administration - International Business program may study in Turkey, Prague, Germany or Belgium; students in the School of Tourism are eligible to study abroad in their fourth semester in Greece, South Africa or Switzerland; and Corporate Communications students have the option of completing their second semester at a Seneca partner college or university in Belgium, Holland or France.

Co-op placements can also be taken abroad if students seek out international opportunities and work with their co-op advisor to secure an appropriate placement that will meet the academic requirements.

You may also want to consider an international internship or job after graduation, or look into volunteering for one of the many organizations that do work around the world.

No matter which path you choose, exposure to new people and new experiences abroad can add valuable experience to your resume and help open new doors to you.
