Navigating the daunting task of asking strangers for money

For many high school grads, the “university question” comes down to money: is it possible to do an undergrad degree in less than ten years without amassing student debt that will outweigh your mortgage?

The answer is YES you can, and we can help!

At CMU, we work hard to prioritize our students academically, personally and financially, and that means prioritizing student employment and scholarships. This year we have developed several new scholarships for growing fields like business, nursing, science and integrative studies. We also offer a variety of merit-based, academic, and leadership scholarships to first-year students.

We also give entrance scholarships to Outtatown and athlete recruits! The possibilities are out there: all you have to do is take a look through our Scholarships & Awards page and click on the link that speaks to you! Deadlines and printable applications are available right there and can be submitted by mail or online in PDF.

Some brief notes on making sense of application forms:

Q: What are credit hours and how do I know if I have any?
A: Your average one-semester course at CMU is worth 3 credit hours. So when the form says you must have less than X credit hours, if you've taken a year or less of post-secondary, you're in the clear.

Q: Doesn't it sound bad for me to be bragging about myself on these forms?
A: Absolutely not! Applying for a scholarship means selling yourself to the people who read your application. Be clear, honest, and enthusiastic about your strengths and accomplishments. Show them you'll be worth it!

And remember: YOU CAN DO THIS! Go get'em.
