Coastal Carolina University Approves Two New Programs in Cyber Threat Intelligence and Commercial and Investment Real Estate

The Coastal Carolina University board of trustees approved two new four-year degree programs during its fall meeting on Oct. 27. The programs are a Bachelor of Arts in cyber threat intelligence and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in commercial and investment real estate.

The new degree programs must be approved by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges before being officially added to the University curriculum.

Bachelor of Arts in cyber threat intelligence

The B.A. in cyber threat intelligence is a joint major between the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts and the Gupta College of Science. Its administrative home will be the Department of Intelligence and Security Studies, with support from the Department of Computing Sciences. The major will prepare students for careers and further study in the cyber domain by concentrating on the analysis and evaluation of system vulnerabilities and those who seek to exploit them.

“We are thrilled to partner on this very important and exciting new degree,” said deans Claudia Bornholdt of the Edwards College and Chad Leverette of the Gupta College. “There is a great need in cyber as threats across the world continue to increase. This degree is interdisciplinary and blends together technical and non-technical aspects of this discipline to allow our students to fill a gap in this sector. The primary focus of this degree on intelligence studies makes it unique in South Carolina and builds off two very strong academic programs at Coastal Carolina University.”

Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in commercial and investment real estate

The B.S.B.A. in commercial and investment real estate will be housed within the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration. The new major is designed to educate and train students in the rigors of real estate technical skills, concepts, development, and investment best practices to support successful growth in commercial real estate fields.

The program will incorporate aspects of Horry County’s unique economy of resort tourism, recreational housing, property development, investment, and leasing. The major will prepare graduates for real estate-related careers with developers, appraisal and consulting firms, property management firms, commercial and industrial brokerage offices, commercial banks, insurance companies, and mortgage bankers.

“We are excited to expand our existing real estate programs with this new major,” said Erika Small, dean of the Wall College. “With the incredible population growth in Horry County, our area will continue to see demand for different types of real estate properties, both residential and commercial. The B.S.B.A. in commercial and investment real estate will prepare graduates for careers that will help meet that demand in our region.”
