1. Don’t be turned off by requirements.
Even if you do not meet all of the requirements, or qualifications for a position; apply anyway! No one is going to be perfect. Those requirements and qualifications that you don’t have can be opportunities to learn new skills.

2. Now is the time.
Be proactive! Start searching your summer employment early to find the best opportunities. Employers like to hire for the summer before the summer actually begins, so start sending out your résumé and cover letters as soon as you can.

3. Sign up for Linkedin.
Linkedin is a social network for professionals. It may not be the most fun or entertaining social media, but it is a great place to represent yourself professionally online. Have an interview come up? Send your interviewer your Linkedin page to get to know you better.

4. Use your network.
While online job postings are easy and accessible, you’ll probably have more luck putting your network to good use. Start by asking family and friends if they know of any opportunities.

Every job is going to offer you something. Whether it’s a foot in the door for your desired career path or working in a restaurant, you’re going to learn skills that will benefit you in the future.
