1. Job Boards - The Talent Network and Magnet Network
The Talent Network is a job board for both students and alumni of OCAD U where they find specialized creative opportunities geared towards artists and designers. OCAD U has also partnered with the Magnet network to connect students and new graduates with Ontario-wide employment opportunities.
2. Career Launchers
Developed in partnership with industry, Career Launchers are unique, high-profile opportunities to help new OCAD U graduates start their professional practice after school. We work with Sugino Studio, Walnut Studios, Artscape Youngplace, Umbra, Canadian Art, Toronto Market Co., The Artist Project, The Entertainment District BIA, RBC Royal Bank and Bell Media to facilitate meaningful exhibition opportunities, access to resources, and significant paid roles for students.
3. The Z Academy
OCAD U is one of a select group of schools to partner with Z Academy (run by the Young & Rubicam Group), which offers creative student talent the chance to participate in paid, highly professional and global internship opportunities.
4. Free online portfolio
OCAD U has developed a partnership with Format to provide free online portfolios for students so they can effectively showcase their creative content using a sophisticated, customizable platform.
5. Resources provided by the Career Development Office
Career advising is available to both current OCAD U students and alumni through the Career Development office which also offers an evolving series of seminars, workshops and drop-in clinics to help students build and capitalize on their knowledge and improve their career-readiness within increasingly specialized professional fields. Furthermore, a suite of practical, specialized and concise online tools and resources is available to help students and recent alumni work through the challenges associated with successful career planning.
6. Business courses and a minor in Entrepreneurship & Social Innovation
The Minor in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation is a distinctive, interdisciplinary, course of study for those seeking to develop business expertise that is applicable to the creative industries. Some courses include Introduction to Business, Project Management, Intro to Design Management, Leadership in Digital Economy, and Socially Responsible Design Practices.
