Vancouver Island University helps its students gain valuable workplace experience.
At Vancouver Island University (VIU), we strongly believe in the power of learning – in the classroom and in the workplace – to broaden people’s experience, enhance their skills and change their lives.
VIU’s Centre for Experiential Learning (CEL) offers a range of co-operative education and internship programs that allow students to explore their career options and apply their academic knowledge in the field. Co-ops and internships also create opportunities for students to connect with professionals in their area of study and develop valuable workplace skills.
VIU offers co-op education programs in hospitality management, tourism, computer science, culinary arts, engineering, and recreation and sport management. Meanwhile, internships are available in Aboriginal ecotourism, the arts, creative writing, criminology, interior design, business (MBA interns) and physical education.

In the fall of 2016, CEL launched an internship-planning course called “Planning for Upper-Level Internship” (INTP 300). This initiative helps introduce students to internship opportunities, provides instructions on linking academic course work to their field of study, and offers career options to meet short- and long-term goals.
