We know you have a lot to think of as you’re finishing up high school and deciding what you’re going to do next. Applying for scholarships can sometimes feel like another stress you don’t want to take time to deal with. However, applying for scholarships doesn’t have to take a lot of time or be a huge stress. We have a few helpful tips to make applying for scholarships as successful as possible for you.

  1. 1. APPLY! Many people don’t want to bother applying, but the little bit of time and effort now is totally worth it in the long run, especially when you start paying back student loans. Briercrest has a way of ensuring that all available scholarship money gets distributed, but many larger schools have lots of money that goes unclaimed. Wherever you’re thinking about going, make sure you apply for anything and everything you can.
  2. 2. Choose your references well. Select references who will complete their forms on time. Also, don’t hesitate to follow up with them. Everyone need reminders sometimes.
  3. 3. Take a few extra minutes to proofread your paragraphs before you submit them. Better yet, have someone else take a quick look at it. A second set of eyes never hurts to make sure you’re expressing yourself as clearly as possible.
Briercrest has lots of scholarships available to new students, so be sure to check out the list of options!

Applications are open and the first deadline is March 6, with more deadlines through until April 30. Here’s a link with more detailed information.

Our applications are straightforward and shouldn’t take you long. So, grab a friend, go to your favourite coffee shop, and take an hour to fill out scholarship and bursary applications. You’ll be glad you did!
