So you're on the home stretch of your final year in high school. Just another six months and then you take the next step in your educational journey - university! Nervous? Don't be! With small class sizes and a commitment to helping all students succeed, you'll find a welcoming home at Vancouver Island University. Here are six tips to help ease the transition:

Apply! Not sure how to get started? Check out our 8 Steps to Become a VIU Student page for some helpful tips or contact our friendly Recruiters for more support.

Take a campus tour. Get familiar with the layout of the campus before you arrive with a 360 virtual tour. There are also several options to visit in person. And Ready, Set, Go - Launchpad to Success at VIU will give you more information about registration, planning your first semester and what to expect.

Figure out a game plan. Once you've applied, VIU's Educational Advisors are here to answer all of your questions and help steer you in the right direction. They can help you explore careers and post-secondary education and training programs, and decide on a plan that meets your short- and long-term goals.

Apply for VIU scholarships, awards and bursaries. Simply complete your Scholarship/Award/Bursary Profile in your VIU student record by March 31.

Ramp up your study habits. Want to get familiar with university-level academic expectations? Learning Matters is a digital learning commons for students that includes tips ranging from taking effective class notes and organizing essays, to effective learning strategies and how to find information for research papers.
