The University of Lincoln, UK offer a bespoke Careers and Employability Service for students and graduates (alumni). The future careers of our students, graduates and even staff are very important to us. The Careers and Employability Service offers advice, guidance and opportunities to gain paid and voluntary work experience as well as letting students and graduates know about careers fairs. The Careers and Employability Service also holds on-campus careers exhibitions where graduates can talk about careers with world-leading organisations, such as Siemens, Panasonic and the BBC.

Paid work experience
Gaining professional work experience is very important to complement your studies. Employers around the world want more than just a good degree from a recognised institution. Consequently, we take this very seriously at the University of Lincoln, UK by offering The Job Shop in partnership with our award winning Students' Union. The Job Shop is a central location for employers to advertise paid jobs and work experience opportunities for our students. It is a service designed for students to develop their skill-set outside of the classroom. Different types of roles are advertised within our Job Shop from casual part-time jobs to full-time graduate vacancies.

The University of Lincoln, UK also has opportunities for internships for students after they graduate in various different departments. And we have paid positions for Student Ambassadors wishing to help Marketing with open days, campus tours or even social media in the International Office!

Help with graduate and non-graduate applications
Importantly, our Job Shop does more; it offers students the chance to gain help with applications and assisting them to enhance their employability. It also runs weekly workshops on updating and creating CVs, dealing with interviews (face to face and telephone) as well as giving students overviews of employer expectations. Fundamentally, the workshops also cover assistance with graduate roles and applications (e.g. working for Siemens, our National Health Service and Enterprise Rent A Car, etc).

Voluntary work experience
Through our number 1 Students' Union in the UK we have volunteering opportunities with local, national and international charitable and non-charitable organisations. Our Students' Union also offers the opportunity to volunteer as a committee member, or as an SU helper or even as an SU officer. Alternatively, you could volunteer within one of any of our 120 sports clubs and societies. However, if you have a limit on the number of hours you can work, for example, via a TIER 4 visa, then you may be restricted to a set number of hours. Nevertheless, you will still be eligible to work for those hours, which is usually 20 hours per month. Volunteering is seen as a good way to develop professionally and is priceless when applying for careers after studying.
