New York Institute of Technology-Vancouver offers two degrees: a Master’s in Business Administration (M.B.A.) and a Master of Science in Information, Network, and Computer Security (M.S.-INCS). To help these students become career-ready, NYIT’s Office of Career Services offers a series of classes. They also have resources, including webinars, through the university’s base in New York.

Closer to home, NYIT-Vancouver hosts a series of events which, in addition to practicum and volunteer opportunities, allow NYIT students to learn from role models and connect with mentors from throughout Vancouver.

Sometimes, though, the Office of Career Services helps to change a student’s life. This is what happened for second-year M.B.A. student Clodimar (“Junior”) Feijao.

After getting help with his resume, Junior shared with Career and Alumni Services Coordinator Lee Harris another ambition: to write a book about how to “pitch” business ideas. His immediate goal was to appear as a contestant on “Dragon’s Den.”

Lee and Junior worked together on his audition (or pitch) for the show’s producers. “Out of hundreds of presentations, only a few will participate in the program. Even so, this was one of the greatest experiences of my life,” said Junior. While awaiting the outcome of the audition, he is planning to pitch to the producers of “Shark Tank,” as well as looking for a book publisher.

Asked to identify one critical thing that NYIT Career Services has done for him, Junior didn’t hesitate. “Sometimes,” he acknowledged, “one of your biggest enemies is your own anxiety and demotivation. You begin to doubt yourself. This is the most important thing I have gained from Career Services. Their support has helped me keep on track and believe in myself.”
