One of the best things about Glion Institute of Higher Education (GIHE) is its strong internship program for undergrads studying hospitality and event management. At Glion, bachelor’s degree students in semesters 3 and 5 participate in internships lasting five to six months each. The internships can be located in your home town, near our campuses in Switzerland and London—or anywhere in the world you want to explore.

In 2014, 84 hotel companies—including Kempinski, Marriott, and the Four Seasons—visited Glion to recruit students for internships and jobs. GIHE is ranked among the top three hospitality schools in the world, so hotels are eager to work with our students and graduates.

Read about a student who interned in a five-star Marriott in Cannes, France, working in the Receiving, Room Service, Banquets and Events, and Food and Beverage departments. This cross-training experience gave him a broad overview of the hospitality industry and helped him see which areas he liked best.

Glion’s Internship Department communicates internship opportunities to students and coaches them on preparing CVs, cover letters, contracts, and work permits. Each Glion student receives an average of six internship offers, and one staff member provides continuous support for students on internship.

For their second internship—after a semester studying managerial methods—students are encouraged to choose a position higher up the ladder than their first position. Following each internship, students write a report about their experience and discuss with a faculty member what they learned and the challenges they faced.

An internship is a great way to apply your classroom learning in the real world, make professional connections, and test out whether you really want to work in the field you’re studying. You’ll also learn valuable practical skills. Sometimes, internships turn into jobs—and even careers.
