When considering studying abroad in Aberdeen, Scotland, you don’t think it would be that different than North America, right? You might consider the stereotypical differences expecting everyone to be ginger, men walking around in kilts, and lots of drinking to occur. Although stereotypes come from somewhere, Aberdeen, Scotland is a wonderful city to live in and Robert Gordon University has so much to offer. But even if Aberdeen isn’t so different than home, right away it can still be unfamiliar and can seem ever so daunting.

However, Robert Gordon University can make things seem just a little bit smaller and comforting through the diversity of its student life. RGU has something for everyone, ranging from sports teams to student government to LGBT to course specific groups. You really have the ability to make a statement and express yourself in any way you feel obliged. And not to worry, if there is a group you are looking for that has yet to become officially sponsored, you can be the founding member and start your own group, like I am with the physiotherapy society.

If you are far away from home, groups and societies are a great to get involved. They can bring a sense of security in a recognized environment. You have opportunities to meet people passionate and interested in similar activities, quickly filling up your free time and social calendar. Each and every group and society provides the feeling of purpose on campus, you can’t help but get involved! RGU has just the group or society waiting for you, so what are you waiting for?
