Find the right university using the power of elimination.

Choosing a university isn't only about collecting information; it’s about deciding what is most important to you and eliminating possibilities one-by-one.

Step one: Choose a major

Your choice of major will narrow your search to the best schools for that particular field. First, you should ask yourself: What career opportunities exist with a degree in that major?

Hospitality and events are two fast-growing, dynamic industries and Glion is ranked among the top three hospitality management schools in the world for an international career (TNS Global Research, 2013). Would you be successful in hospitality or event management? Take our career quiz to find out.

Step two: Make two tough decisions

Location - Will you study abroad or stay close to home? At Glion, studying abroad teaches our students self-sufficiency, develops their multicultural skills and language skills, and exposes them to two major hubs of tourism and business: Switzerland and London.

Cost - University tuition is an investment, so consider your budget and the “Return on Investment” factor. Since Glion is a residential university, our fees include tuition, accommodation, meals and other essentials. See our Student Loan information for Canadian students.

Step Three: Research and Visit

By this stage, you should have a pretty small list of universities. Now it’s down to key details:

  • Accreditation - Who accredits the university and to what level?
  • Career Preparation - Does the programme offer any internships? What are the placement rates?
  • Student life - A visit is really essential, but student blogs or virtual tours are also helpful.

Every step in this process should bring you closer to the right university for you. However, if you run into challenges, don’t hesitate to reach out to your school counsellor, or an admissions officer for assistance: Sarah Humphrey, Regional Admissions Director, at (819) 459-2227 or sarah.humphrey@laureate.ch.
