The first week of school is upon us and you may or may not have already colour-coded your fancy new agenda with all the deadlines, but one this is for sure: before you know it, papers, research and exams will be what you live and breathe. Don’t worry though; Thompson Rivers University (TRU) in Kamloops, BC has a studying option that fits you.

If this is your first year, or even your fourth and final year, managing your never ending study to-do list can become overwhelming in an instant. Our best advice, and likely the same advice you’ve heard over and over again: stay organized! Whether that means colour coding your agenda or post-it-noting every text, paper or project, find a way and stick to it. It will make life so much easier and it will help you prioritize what you need to do.

Once you have organized your academic life (and hey, it may even help outside the university realm), that’s where TRU and our amazing Student Services team can step in. Sometimes all our studying needs is a little boost from our friends: Supplemental Learning (SL) is organized study sessions led by an upper-level student. SL is extremely successful because its students leading students and peers studying with peers; in the past year, students who participated in SL were twice as likely to succeed in the course.

Alternatively, everyone can benefit from a little feedback, and when it comes to writing those papers, having an audience can be useful for all writers at all levels. TRU’s Writing Centre provides feedback on your writing, helps you with generating ideas, sentence structure, organizing your thoughts, grammar, editing and everything in between!

TRU also has a Math Help Centre staffed by faculty and upper-level students, to help you work through those never-ending calculations. Or, if economics is more your forte, the Economics Help Centre is always open for independent or group study supported by Economic professors.

No matter what year or program you’re in, TRU has a study support option that fits you. If university is still a year away, keep TRU in mind for you academic future. Applications open on October 1 for all of our programs. And if you want to come check us out for yourself, join us at Fall Open House on Friday, October 24!
