Studying abroad offers a rich and unique experience, which not only opens the door to other cultures, but also unlocks potential and teaches valuable life skills.

The key to a fulfilling international experience begins the moment you act upon your desire to see the world whilst working towards your goal of achieving a qualification overseas. As with anything, what you get out is what you put in, therefore pinning down the reasons why you want to study abroad will help you immensely when it comes to deciding on suitable locations.

Armed with a vision of what you are aiming for, you will need to begin researching the universities and courses available in the countries that you have shortlisted. There is a great deal of information out there to advise you including international and regional rankings. If your decision is driven purely by course then the QS World University Rankings by Subject may also be a useful resource.

Once you have shortlisted countries of interest, you can identify some of the national organizations, such as UCAS in the UK, who will be able to direct you to providers of scholarships and further information to refine your search.

At this stage, you will probably be seeking reassurance from the university of your choice; therefore it is advisable to contact the appropriate members of staff or even alumni association to have your questions answered. If you are unable to physically visit the campus, many universities make available informational resources such as Virtual Tours and Virtual Open Days to provide prospective students with an insight into student life.
