3 Keys: Making Your Last Year, Your Best Year

So, here you are in the last year of school, starting to think seriously about your future studies and how to get there.

Below are 3 keys that students at Les Roches swear by.

#1 Enjoy down time. Yep, you read that correctly. Take time out to relax and refocus. A refreshed mind absorbs more than a tired one. But here’s the twist: be creative with your relaxation. Choose an activity that shows you are engaged with your community and the world – it looks much better on your résumé than listing TV or comfort eating as a hobby.

#2 Stretch your brain. The brain is one big muscle that loves to be trained. The hippocampus is involved in memory forming, organizing and storing. Remember that brainy kid who was ‘gifted’ with a photographic memory? Well, with a bit of hard work, you too can be the ‘gifted’ one. Crosswords, memory games, suduokos and ball-room dancing (or – thankfully, perhaps - other choreographed dances) are all great ways to give your brain a work out.

#3 Prioritize. Write a list. All the things you need to get done as well as things you’d like to do. Then, against the criterion of ‘Usefulness for Acceptance Into Dream College and Program’, prioritise them.

And don’t go hiding your list away in a draw somewhere. Ask a friend or a parent to hold you accountable.

After all, it’s what you do that counts, not what you just think about doing whilst chillaxing by the pool…
