Finding Buried Bursary/Scholarship Treasure

When looking at funding options – your options are not just limited to the typical entrance scholarships or bursaries offered at the school or community. There are many bursaries or scholarships that may be buried below the surface. For example – at Stenberg College we offer bursaries for our online Cardiology Technologist Program to those who currently work in hospitals or health care. We also provide funding in conjunction with our industry partners – for example volunteers or referrals can be eligible for program-specific bursaries.

Within our Programs, there are also performance-based bursaries or scholarships that are available. Our Student of the Year award comes with a full tuition reimbursement prize (up to $20,000) and runners up also get smaller tuition reimbursement prizes. Our Regional Diploma Psychiatric Nursing Program also has merit-based prizes awarded to graduating students. So the options for extra funding do not end upon starting school – but it may take some hard work to get them!

Even after graduation, there are opportunities to truncate your student loan repayment. In British Columbia, there is a loan forgiveness program that allows recent graduates in some professions to have their student loans forgiven by agreeing to work at publicly funded facilities in underserved areas. We have placed nursing students in underserved areas at their request so that they may take advantage of this great opportunity.
