Discover TRU Outside of the Classroom

Believe it or not, a university student’s life is not all about studying. Some of our greatest university memories come from outside the classroom, as do some of our greatest friends. Whether you only volunteer once a month or play intramural soccer twice a week, this is the time you discover who you really are and hopefully the path you want to take in life.

At Thompson Rivers University, in Kamloops, British Columbia campus life is very important to us. On BMO Student Street, Students Corner is a one-stop resource centre to help new and current TRU students connect to the TRU community, access various services and enrich each student’s experience. And that’s just to get you started!

Across campus, TRU’s Student Union coordinates over 80 different student-run clubs and associations; there is literally something for everyone. There are Academic Clubs such as the Actors Workshop Theatre Club and Physics Club, and there are also Common Interest Clubs like the Bollywood Club, Eco Club, Rover Crew Club, United Way Club and Pride Club. TRUSU clubs volunteer, promote various interests, educate members, create bonds lasting well beyond graduation, and sometimes help change the world one small step at a time. In fact, TRUSU’s Pride Club brought Canada’s second rainbow crosswalk to campus!

Speaking of steps, Kamloops is Canada’s Tournament Capital, so it should be no surprise that TRU also has 12 varsity and club athletic teams in Wolfpack Athletics. Whether you want to perform at the highest level of university sport, or you just want to play for fun, the Wolfpack welcomes athletes of all levels.

And once students become a pro at university, they can gain valuable skills through opportunities such as the Engagement Ambassadors program or the co-curricular record. No matter what you decide to get involved with, university is kind of like passing Go; but instead of collecting $200, you’ll make friends and stories to last a lifetime.

TRU is still accepting applications for some of our programs for fall 2014. For more information, or if you have additional questions, contact the Student Recruitment team by email at recruitment@tru.ca.
