At Brescia University College, 11 per cent of our student body comes from countries across the world. International students at Brescia have the opportunity to participate in the welcoming, small, and supportive nature of our campus, and have access to the vast resources at Western University. With guidance from International Program Co-ordinator, Christina Lord, students are comfortably eased into the new transition to life in London, Ontario, Canada.

A key component of Brescia’s international student orientation is the International Bridging Program. This program, offered prior to the school semester, invites international students to view the campus, and the city of London. Through a multitude of activities, students make connections and friendships in their new home before the school year begins. Bridging offers a relaxed environment, and delivers an opportunity to view the campus, and increase cultural awareness among fellow students. Enjoyable activities such as a trip to Niagara Falls ease the transition to life at university in a home away from home.

Throughout this experience, international students can learn about their bank accounts, their new e-mail account, receive their student ID and London Transit bus pass, and purchase books and supplies ahead of time. New in 2013, Brescia provided mock lectures, where students learned about critical thinking and other important skills from our professors.

When asked about their experience in choosing Brescia, international students said they admired the friendly environment and personal community connection, and described the atmosphere as being like a family. Others found their transition to be an easy adjustment since Brescia presents a student-centred focus. The majority appreciated that Brescia is the only women’s university in Canada, and were inspired by the focus on empowerment and leadership. Links to video testimonials can be found on YouTube.
