Sara Kim, Registrar & Student Services Manager at Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa reviews hundreds of student applications each year. She offers her advice on what makes an application stand out from the crowd.

Demonstrate your passion.
The culinary world is a passionate one, requiring full commitment and dedication. The first thing your application should demonstrate is your PASSION for the industry. Communicate to the school that you are committed to working hard and learning as much as you can.

Highlight your achievements.
Your application should do justice to your achievements, both within the culinary world and beyond. Showcase any prior experience in a kitchen as well as achievements that show that you are a hard worker, work well under pressure, multitask, and perform well in a team. All these qualities will contribute to your success in the culinary world.

Make it personal.
This is one of the most important qualities in our applications – we want to know why you want to be here. Tell us what draws you to the school, why you chose it, and how you fit with the school’s values.

Presentation matters.
Your completed application and accompanying documents represent you to the school. Make sure details such as spelling, grammar, neatness, and organization are top notch!

Send it on time.
An impressive application that is received after a deadline date is a disappointment to both the applicant and the school. So, stop procrastinating and start applying! Good luck!
