If you are considering studying in the UK you will notice that the application process is different to what you may be used to in Canada. Here is a useful guide to what you will need to consider and prepare for a successful application for undergraduate and postgraduate study in the UK.

How you apply depends on the course you choose and how you want to study it.

For undergraduate courses in most cases you will apply through UCAS if you want to study full-time or directly to the University for part-time or distance learning courses. You get 5 choices through UCAS and you need to apply between 1 September and 15 January. You can find further information on our website.

UK Universities offer conversion and extension postgraduate courses so you will not necessarily need a related undergraduate degree to apply but some courses may have that requirement. Some Universities will also consider relevant work experience. For most full and part-time postgraduate courses you need to apply direct to the University. Majority of our postgraduate courses have no specific deadlines, but we recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible. If you are applying to a course in the Health or Education subject areas, there may be a specific deadline. Courses start in January, September and in some cases May. You can check our Course Finder for start dates.

You may not need to have all of your documents to apply and receive a Conditional Offer. The documents you will need are listed on our website. Applicants from Canada are exempt from IELTS requirement. The main difference is that that rather than an essay you need to write a one page personal statement explaining why you want to study the course of your choice.
