Studying for that test or exam doesn’t have to be stressful. Follow these tips from University of New Brunswick student, Courtney:

Tip #1. BE PREPARED. Don’t cram the night before the exam. I know, you’re the master of procrastination, but it’s too hard for you to remember a whole semester’s worth of notes in one night. Review and study a little bit every night.

Tip #2. TAKE A BREAK. If you’re like me, you’ve been going non-stop for too long. Although there is a lot to do, it’s important to take some time to relax.

Tip #3. EAT WHILE YOU STUDY. This one might sound a little weird, but it is proven that your brain works better while it’s taking in nutrients. So while you’re reviewing, have a little healthy snack.

Tip #4. CUDDLE. That’s right! Show some love. Cuddling is a great way to relieve stress. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a boyfriend/girlfriend. Hug a friend, a pet, a blanket or whatever you want to share a little affection with.

Tip #5. USE YOUR OWN WORDS. It’s easier to understand concepts if you paraphrase. This means taking what you’re studying and explaining it in your own words. A good way to do this is to read over a page, cover the page and recite it, then check to see if you forgot anything.

Tip #6. MUSIC. Music is a fantastic stress reliever. Not only is it proven to slow your heart-rate, but it can lead to activities like singing and dancing, which are also great for relieving stress.

These are just a few of the many activities you can do to prepare yourself for exams and to keep calm. It’s not good to become panicked before exams, so make sure you take the time to keep yourself from getting stressed out.
