Taking exams can be the most stressful time for students. Don’t let anxiety affect your grades this year.

Try the following tips:
1.    Avoid cramming. Students who pull all-nighters are found to have lower average GPAs than those who get enough rest. Rather, one should study for 30-50 minutes a day in the week leading up to the test.  “Spacing” will allow you to be more focused and retain more of the information.
2.    Find a study group.  Only do this once a week as it will help in learning concepts from different points of view but can also lead to more distractions.
3.    Sweat. Exercise regularly to get blood flowing to your brain which helps you absorb more information and focus more effectively.
4.    Get a good night’s rest. During sleep, the brain encodes what it has recently learned into memory and you will remember more in the morning.
5.    Eat a healthy breakfast the morning of the exam. A balanced breakfast would provide your body all the nutrients necessary to stay alert.
6.    Find the right place to study. Create a study environment that will avoid distractions. Control noise levels and study under good lighting.
7.    Take good notes while in class. Do not go crazy on highlighting as it may lead you to emphasize individual facts rather than make connections between concepts.
8.    Practice writing essays by journaling or blogging. It is good to write using correct grammar, syntax, and complete sentences rather than text talk.
9.    Take a practice test. Practice tests help you evaluate your strengths and weaknesses.
