University 101: How to Prepare for the Best Year Yet

With the start of the school year just around the corner, there are a few things you can be doing now to get yourself prepared to conquer the year. Here’s a list of 12 Things to Do Before the School Starts

Nuts & Bolts
1.) Memorize your Student I.D. Number.
2.) If your school offers an on campus employment program check it out and apply.
3.) Pack for Residence. At King’s there’s still time to apply for residence at kingsu.ca/residence
4.) Save your class schedule and campus map to your phone (or print it out old school style) and then check out where your classes are.
5.) Sign up for the Fall Student Retreat , if there is one at your institution. It’s a great way to meet new students.
6.) Register for New Student Orientation. There is no better way to get yourself equipped for school than getting all the insider tips from Student Life, fellow students, Financial Aid officers, and in some cases even the President of the institution.

Just Because
7.) Learn how to do laundry. There's no time like the present.
8.) Put together some study-inspiring playlists.
9.) Learn to cook your favourite meal.
10.) Hit up local garage sales for wallet-friendly decor.
11.) Take pictures of your favourite hometown haunts with your favourite people, even if it's just around Edmonton!
12.) Make a university bucket list.

As a new student there are lots of programs to help you. If you are living off campus see if your school has any commuter student programs. Get ready for academic success by registering for an academic success start course like UNVI 150 offered at King’s. Lastly, enjoy the experience. university is a chance to meet new friends and learn new things.
