The Write Placeis a free service offered by King’s Department of Modern Languages. We are committed to helping every student become a better writer by offering trained peer tutors, an ESL writing tutor, a critical reading tutor, creative writing workshops, as well as an effective writing instructor.

We help students from all disciplines at any stage of the writing process -- from brainstorming ideas to helping students learn how to revise their own work. Trained peer tutors provide feedback on written work by asking questions and engaging with the student. Students and tutors discuss any concerns the student may have about writing, including macro logical issues such as structure, argument, and coherence, and micro logical concerns such as grammar and citations.

The Department of Modern Languagesoffers several writing courses that help you improve your academic writing skills:

Writing 0002F/G: Restricted to ESL students, this course introduces English grammar and structure as well as the conventions of university writing

Writing 1022F/G(Requires Writing 0002F/G.): Restricted to ESL students, this course provides intensive hands-on research and writing practice

Writing 1020F/G: A practical introduction to academic writing, designed for first-year students of any discipline

Writing 2101F/G: A more intensive seminar-based course that develops principles and techniques of good academic writing in any discipline

English 3998E: Students learn to write creatively in multiple genres

At King’s we are committed to the development of our students through our support services and programs.
