Whether you’re a new or returning student, there’s a lot to do to get ready for September. While it can be overwhelming, you’re not alone – at Seneca we’re here to help!

Plan ahead

If it’s your first time at Seneca you should start by checking out our Checklist for New Students. It covers everything you should do before September and during the first week of school. Orientation is the best way to begin your first year at Seneca. If you can’t attend Orientation, sign up for a campus tour so you can learn your way around before the first day of school. Returning students can also participate by becoming Orientation Leaders.

Manage your finances

New and returning students should figure out how much of their summer savings they should set aside to be financially comfortable. A budget calculator is really helpful for this as it’ll give an estimation of how much you’re likely to spend on your course materials and necessities.

Get connected to other students

Connecting with your peers is very important; they can be your best cheerleaders, supporters and resources. There are many ways you can connect with other students – from signing up for peer tutoring, to joining clubs and associations, to playing college sports. By getting involved in college life you’ll meet new people and build a social support system. There are also specific supports and resources for mature students and international students.

You may way to consider signing up for SMILE, Seneca’s unique program designed to help new students make the most of their college life. SMILE or “Student Mentoring in Life and Education” offers new students a great opportunity to connect with a senior student mentor in their program area who can support them in their transition into the College.
